Under the perfect conditions, terrariums are capable of surviving with minimal human intervention. The worlds oldest sealed terrarium is over 50 years old! Getting all the factors right will allow you to leave it be and appreciate its beauty without stressing about constant maintenance.
The most important thing to keep in mind is to always avoid direct sunlight. The glass surrounding the terrarium can act as a magnifying glass and burn foliage. In enclosed terrariums, direct sunlight will also heat the terrarium to extreme temperatures killing all of its inhabitants.
Most terrariums must be kept moist (with the exception of desert/dry themed ones). Enclosed terrariums are perfect if you're looking for low upkeep, as evaporating water acts as rainfall. Very rarely do sealed terrariums require watering, and when they do they don't need much.
If the soil of your terrarium is looking dry, slowly add water with a spray bottle until it is damp. Do not flood your terrarium as the water has no where to go and will drown your plants.
